Edgar Wright Research

Edgar Wright

Born: Poole, England on 18th April 1974

Education: Arts University Bournemouth

Edgar Wright is a very talented Screen Writer and Director. He has worked on films such as Shaun of the dead, Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim v The World. He uses lots of Close Ups that are fast cutting, he does this so that his audience cannot go through 20 minutes to explain a scene.

He gives the medium and frames of the shot as much importance as the actors and the dialogue. He doesn’t just write the joke so the actor can tell it, he writes it so it can be visually seen go give an effect on the audience and so they are engaged into the film. He uses the full range of comedy, speech as well as visual.

Also he uses quick shots to transport one character to another place so the audience aren’t bored, it saves writing more dialogue and visual descriptions, also he can make it fast paced so the audience are engaged and he can also shove a joke in there.

Edgar Wright adds the future of the story in little small references, for example in ‘This is the End’ when Jay and Seth are getting stoned a short shot on the TV shows a hole in the ground, this would have a significant effect later on when a party is disrupted by a hole appearing killing many at the party.

Edgar Wright is made an Auteur by using the same actors in his films such as Simon Pegg, Nick Frost ‘being the most used’, Bill Nighy and Martin Freeman.
