The Major Five Broad casting networks in the US is NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX and CW Television Network.
NBC – The National Broadcasting Company is an American Commercial based Television Network, that’s property of NBCUniversal which is centred at the Comcast Building in the Centre of New York. The NBC was founded in 1926 by Radio Corporation of America RCA. The NBC is officially the oldest Network running on US Television due to it being around since 1926. (1)
NBC sold two radio networks in 1943, under pressure from the government and those networks formed ABC Television Network. In 1964 NBC broadcasted its first Olympic games and later in 1975 it would debut Saturday Night Live. In 1995 NBC debut their website NBC.com at the start of the internet era in 1995. During 2008 NBC joining Hulu to stream catch up shows joining FOX and ABC. (2)
CBS – The Formally named Columbia Broadcasting System is a commercial based Television Network earning its revenue through adverts etc. It is located in the CBS building in New York City with most major production operations in New York City/State. CBS was founded in 1927 as a radio station and then fully became a Television format during 1941. Its former name was the United Independent Broadcasters in 1927 and later became Columbia Phonographic Broadcasting System, to Columbic Broadcasting System and now CBS. CBS owns over 240 owned and operated Television stations. (3)
CBS have had some true battles over Sports programs over the years battling with NBC. In 1988 CBS won the bids NBC to show NFL games on live TV but later on in 1993 they lost all rights to show NFL games on their broadcasting network. (4)
ABC – The American Broadcasting Network is an American Commercial Broadcasting Television Network that’s owned by Disney Media Networks in the division of The Walt Disney Company. Established in 1943 as radio network 73 years ago became a fully functioning television network in 1948 and has been ever since. It’s the fifth oldest Major Television Network in the world and the youngest out of the big three US television networks. Its headquarters are located on 66th street in Manhattan, New York City. In 2007 there long running radio station was sold to Citadel Broadcasting. (5)
Public Service Broadcasting Networks USA
The Five main, Public Television are PBS, Create, World, V-me and PBS Kids.
PBS – Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) is and American Public Television Distributor. Headquarters located in Arlington, Virginia. PBS operates as a Non Profitable Organization and is most prominent provider of Television Programming. Established in 1970 by Hartford N. Gunn Jr it was set up as a Non-commercial broadcaster in the United States of American. It replaced already existing Broadcaster National Educational Television which was established in 1952. PBS shows programs like Downton Abbey and Modern Family etc as well as Independent Films as well as documentary’s. (6)
Create – Create is an American Digital Broadcasting Television Network which is owned by American Public Television. This network broadcasts shows like how to and DIY, lifestyle and Instructional Programming 24 hours a day. Established in January 2006 and based in the United States of America, with its headquarters in New York City. This Channel was created as the result of PBS YOU’s Closure from Public TV. It shows TV programs that tell you how to Cook, arts & crafts as well as Travel. (7)
