Tate Modern Inspired

What is the name of the piece, and the name of the artist?

The Piece is called Gelatine Silver Print and was taken by Walker Evans in a Interior Detail of a West Virginia Coal Miners house in 1935.

What ten words do you associate with how the piece makes you feel?

Old, Creepy, Dark, Noir, Silhouette, Sad, Regret, Ghostly, Sinister and Eerie. I think these are all the write descriptions for this photography because its a very old fashioned and dark photos. These days when we see photos that are old we have a perception for those photos to be very creepy and sinister.

If this piece was a story, what job would the protagonist do?

I believe the protagonist will be a miner as the photo is from a miners house. I wouldn't just choose him to be a miner because its a miners house its also because of the time period the photo was taken. In 1935 mining was at a peak with coal and salt all being mined for money and it is a very being profitable resource.

What would the central idea of the story be?

I would have the story based around a miner who has a power to read into the future and will stop his fellow miners dying. I would choose this idea because even tho the picture is dark I would like to shine light on this miner and make him the hero. Most mines are owned by governments and high end businesses which make this a good storyline. The reason i believe it would make a good storyline is that miners are dirty and aren't well educated, but during the great depression in America people were forced into this sort of work even if they were a top business man.

What would the ‘enemy’ or antagonist of the story be?

The enemy would be the owner of the mine a big business man planning to blow the mine to pieces with everyone inside. I picked the head business man because usually thats the person who causes all the problems and struggles. I did't want to pick a stereo typically story line but i struggled to think about a story and it popped into my help.
